What do people that were teenagers in the 80's NOW have in common?

I have to write a story and I was born in 1990. So, I don't know what they have (or even had) in common, They are about my grandparents age...What do people that were teenagers in the 80's NOW have in common?
Your grandparents age!! I doubt that unless your parents were like 10 when they had you, and your grandparents were like ten when they had your parents!

Here are a few things that were different then;

1 No internet

2 No cellphones

3 No surveillance cameras on the street

4 No ufc/mma

5 Seatbelts were optional

6 Eddie Murphy was huge

just off the top of my head. What do people that were teenagers in the 80's NOW have in common?
First of all there is always school and this is one thing you had in common. There is Music of which has not changed much sense the 80's, and much of the 80's music is still listened to in 2008. Rap was just starting out and now has become very popular. There is still the teenage blues, ups and downs coming of age. Opposite sexes are still attracted to one another. Teenagers are still the smartest human beings on the earth, I wish I was still as smart as I was a 18 as I knew it all at this age my parents were completely ignorant. We still have to take a driving test to get a licenses. The sun still rises in the east and sets in the west. Madonna, Aero-smith and AC/DC are still popular. I could go on and on...
Things we 80's rejects have in Common NOW. We were all teenagers in the 80's. You see, you had the answer all along. Try doing some research on the 80's.

As for being as old as your grandparents, I have to question your maths skills. I'm only one generation ahead of you, honey.

Shouldn't the flaming liberal teenagers be the MOST concerned?

about having Obama as president, considering they'll be the ones paying back the national debt?Shouldn't the flaming liberal teenagers be the MOST concerned?
Shhh They don't realize it yet.Shouldn't the flaming liberal teenagers be the MOST concerned?
To be fair, it will be their grand-kids paying back the national debt. Except none of the very flaming liberals I know want families. So, now you see why they aren't concerned. Not that most teenagers can vote, its the flaming liberal college students who have no idea how much Carter sucked as a President that you should really think about.

Peace
Under President Bush Jr., US debt went from $5.7 trillion to $10.7 trillion. In other words, under the Bush administration the US government borrowed almost as much as it had under all previous administrations combined. And you think we should be worried about Obama's borrowing to keep the economy from collapsing?
They SHOULD be concerned, but i fear that most of them are the biggest victims of the greatest confidence job in world history!! They will pay for their mistakes in a brutal way as the years go by.
no ones, no one educated atleast, is saying he isnt adding to the debt. what liberals are saying is that he has to do this to get out of that dubya guy mess.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PeMuDN9Ew鈥?/a>
By that time, we will be a totalitarian government controlled by a dictator. There will be no such thing as liberal nor conservative. Much thanks to our presidential puppets for destroying America.
how can you afford a computer paying back all of Reagan's debt now?

isn't that debt crushing you?

oh... it's not? well why?
a) demogague much?

b) borrow and spend economics has been the religion of US politics for decades, obama is just the latest incarnation of the same old BS
they are too busy voting for Adam on American Idol to care. 5 minutes ahead is the average length of time a teen looks into the future.
If the answer is any further than the end of their noses, they don't see it.
To ordinary teens: Obama's the future. Unchanging conservatives are the past.
As long as they have their government handouts, what do they care?
What? You mean lowering taxes and increasing spending doesn't increase tax revenue??

Supposedly it did over the past 8 years.

Do you think that TWO teenagers can be the authors of a book?

Me and my friend are thinking about writing a book but I'm worried. We are both creative and both have good incite on the story but would it ruin it?As in would it not have the same ';voice'; throughout the story? And suppose we did write it.Is it possible to get it published with two teenaged authors?Do you think that TWO teenagers can be the authors of a book?
My answer is: YES of course!

With the advent of self-publishing, any writer can now become a book author.

If you need to know more about self-publishing, get this FREE book publishing guide and a publishing consultant will walk you through the whole process free of charge:

http://www2.xlibris.com/requestkit/index鈥?/a>

I hope you find this answer helpful.Do you think that TWO teenagers can be the authors of a book?
Yeah, it's possible to be published with two authors. There is a book called ';Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist'; which is written by two different authors; it is now huge and became a movie :D The authors also wrote another book.

It might work better if you each write a different character's perspective because otherwise you may contradict one another.
Yes go for it!

Two minds are better then one often times and you can balance each others writer's block and any weaknesses you may have as writers.

One of the other answers said you can switch perspectives. Although it may indeed produce some friction and difficulties at times. Having different characters be more or less written by one of you alone would add to the interaction and diversity to your book's characters. But beware that if your characters become too potent they may dominate the book rather then having events shape the plot. But then again that can be a good thing. It really depends on what you want.
I don't see why not. If you both have good insight, and you're both good writers you should be fine. I'm seeing a lot more books come out with two or more authors, and you could use the fact that you're both teenagers as a selling point. When I was a teen I would have at least read a book if I knew it was written by another teen.
I was hoping that my friend and I could write our book together and BOTH our names could be on the cover of the book. I don't know if a publishing company would allow that, but I know that we'll both be adults by the time the book gets published.

Would you answer my question? http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?鈥?/a>

-_-_-
i mean their are books that have more than one author...

depends on what kind of book your writing?...

if its like an informational book then it shouldnt really make a difference. %26amp; if its like fiction or biography then you could just switch up who's point of view every few chapters...
sure cuz there are kids... yes kids who publish books.

Nothing's imposible.
yea its possible go for it

id read it

What is your opinion of teenagers with cellphones?

I have no problem with it as long as they don't try driving while talking. What is your opinion of teenagers with cellphones?
I got mine when I was 10. My mom had two cell phones and I would always bring one whenever I left the house everyday (I would do kind of dangerous things like climb really tall trees and play near the coyotes and in the mud and stuff so I needed one), and they figured it would be more convenient for me to carry my own. I'm 14 now and I don't use it to text in class or spread rumors or do other things like that. I just use it to call my parents when I'm out of the house or they are out of the house. It really depends on the maturity of the teenager, not the age and the parents should be able to determine that. What is your opinion of teenagers with cellphones?
I think cell phones became so popular so fast that etiquette for using them was never developed and teens especially are some of the most annoying users. Some of the most annoying things are when they text as they walk and don'tt pay attention to what there doing and the same with drivers.

On the positive side, I think cell phones are a great form of security. My parents would give me alot more freedom in high school because they felt like they had an easy way to contact me if they needed too and piece of mind that I would have a way to contact them if I needed to.
i can't stand it. i don't have one and i don't really need one.

in all my classes there is alwayss someone who is sitting there texting in the middle of class in their lap. it drives me nuts because they never get caught. i can soo tell when girls are texting while their phone is in their purse.

although, yesterday there was this girl i heard about that got hers taken away and the teacher said she could get it back at the end of the day. so she went back to get it and the teacher wouldn't give it to her so the student flipped out and called her an f ing ******.

i hate how high school students are sooooo obsessed with having them. they will practically kill someone to get it.
Teenagers 14 and up should have a cell phone to contact their parents or let their parents contact them because school is stressful, but once in a while we need to have some fun so a cellphone would be good to tell them you're coming home late or going to a party of soem sort.
I think 6th grade and up should have cell phones. Middle school is around the time when you go out to the movies with friends, and hang out more often. You can keep your parents updated. I usually do. 6th grade and up should have 'em, unless you can't afford 'em of course.
almost all teens have phones....and i am included in that i'm 13...but a lot of adults say it's dumb. but after i got my phone, i carry it with me all the time, and i feel a LOT safer with it now.
I think once they are 15-16 they need to have one. Before that it's just ridiculous. And their dumb parents waste all that money for their kid to be able to text. Stupid stupid stupid.
Hope you realise that a lot of the people answering this are going to be teenagers with cellphones. Answers may be slightly biased.
I like that most teenagers have cell phones just in case they have to get in contact with someone in case of an emergency.
Well, I think they need to have them for convenience reasons. But most of them are too immature to handle that responsibility.
What do you mean by that??

I cant have an opinion because i have a cellphone and i am a teen
it depends but like under 13 is seriously pushin it

i personally think around 16 when you drive, get a job, mature
Nothing, it's quiet normal in society these days.
12+ should have cell phones. There are too many dangers out there not to have them
What do you mean? All teenagers have cellphones.
Awesome lol even though I am not a teen anymore.
14+ should have cell phones.

Under that is just ridiculous.
they are teens with phones

sorry but that was a waste of 5 points im sorry
Its all cool
Don't drive with them unless its an emergency and I don't see an issue.

  • What are some reasons that teenagers shouldn't vote?

I heard a few kids voted YES to prop 8 because they thought it was funny to.

Does that answer your question? What are some reasons that teenagers shouldn't vote?
A teen is in the prime of life. It tends to be too complicated for most teenagers to dive into, or care about. Hence, politics. Granted, there are many prized individuals that care and can have a reason to vote.

However, lawfully, it depends on the specific teen year that you speak of... and in which state.

I'd say that the reason that teens (other than 18 or 19) shouldn't vote is because they haven't had the time to study the govermental systems and all the ramifications of declaring a party... or even a candidate. The general studies would be of much, much greater importance in their individual futures. What are some reasons that teenagers shouldn't vote?
-maybe they don't pay close attention to politics

-maybe they vote just like how their parents tell them to vote

but these are steriotypes and generalizing.

I feel that if they don't pay attention to politics %26amp; the issues, they probably wouldn't take the initiative to go to the polls and vote.

Should the voting age be lowered?

How about this: If they have a job, if they pay income taxes, they can vote.
    1. if you are not old enough to join the military you shouldn't vote--that is originally why the age is 18

    2. You are not an adult yet so you don't get adult privileges like voting

    3. most likely your still in high school and do not have the required education to make a good choice
Because teenagers are too influenced by trends and what their peers are saying/thinking.

Also for the most part they haven't paid taxes. College students too. Take note....

I am 25 years old and I pay anywhere from 4200-5800 a month in business taxes. I have one employee and I bill only 145000 a year. When kids need to start paying rent, health insurance, taxes, business, taxes, city taxes, welfare taxes... etc, they are quick to become republican.

who allows us to have the american dream.
They aren't mentally mature enough to make a fully informed decision.

This doesn't apply to ALL teens, but as I look back on the past I can fully admit that I wasn't, nor were any of the people I knew.

Many teens do not take more than one point or point of view into account before making a decision or judgment. Heck, humans IN GENERAL seem to have this problem at times.
It is quite a shame that most people who are eligible (i.e. at least 18) don't vote. That having said, most teenagers are shallow and self-centered (which is little different from most Americans) and I would not want to see the voting age lowered below 17.
Because they vote from the wrong end of their bodies...!!!! They don't know didley squat about the candidates, or topics, but they're there..

Take for example this past one in the U S... a good portion of the people who voted, can't even spell, or speak properly, but they voted.. Just friggin charming..

And I have many more thoughts on this situation, but I'll take the 5th and keep all that I've built up in here..

    Regards,

    Rachelle In High Heels
A lot of teens follow fads, and don't pay attention to the issues.

Think Jonas Brothers, Twilight, Harry Potter (even though that's a good series), Hannah Montana, etc....
They are more easily swayed by peer pressure, and their frontal lobes (the part of the brain that controls reasoning) are not yet fully developed.
most teenagers who do vote only vote because MTV tells them too. It appeals to a really biased crowd of teenagers.
they would be peer pressure to vote a certain someone.

they would vote whoever they think has the ';coolness';, ';appearance'; etc.

they would not care who they vote for and the consequences after
I believe that everyone should be able to vote as soon as they can understand politics
Just watch a bunch of teenagers at the mall some time. That is, if you're an adult. You'll see why.
What are some reasons why you shouldnt ask questions...?

    Any answers to that?
most college-aged students voted for the black man

What are the affects on teenagers playing the choking game?

teens will suffocate themselves to get that feelingWhat are the affects on teenagers playing the choking game?
It is believed that this is actually the cause of many apparent teen suicides. It is extremely dangerous and it is an effect that cannot be controlled. What are the affects on teenagers playing the choking game?
lack of oxygen to the brain; imbalance of o2 and co2 in the bloodstream; gangrene is possible especially in the brain
brain damage and death, gee that's appealing!
It might ruined their brain but come to think of it, if your kids play that game, I think the brain is already damaged. How stupid can a teenager be to play a choking game?
Are you sure your not 8?

What are good games for teenagers to play at a 13th birthday party, and give instructions for the games?

spoonsWhat are good games for teenagers to play at a 13th birthday party, and give instructions for the games?
    7 Minutes in Heaven

    Spin the Bottle

    and my favorite ';Guess who's in my mouth!';

That last one was a joke. What are good games for teenagers to play at a 13th birthday party, and give instructions for the games?
Truth or Dare, spin the bottel, 7 mins. in heaven. But if you don't how to plan them, you're probably not old enough. And if that's the case, play twister.

Hey, can I have some teenagers' opinions on this pool party idea?

What kinds of suggestions do you have for such a party? It's a casual thing with my friends. What kinds of food would you serve? Keep in mind this is early in the morning!! Is that weird? I thought it'd be cool! I don't want to spend summer lounging around... ;)

and what kind of music would you play? artists/songs/playlists would help!

any other suggestions feel free to add them....thanx!!!Hey, can I have some teenagers' opinions on this pool party idea?
If you're doing this in the morning you DEFINITELY need some iced coffee(%26amp;tea because not everyone likes coffee).Hey, can I have some teenagers' opinions on this pool party idea?
Okay I'm 22, so not a teenager - but also not too far off. An early morning pool party would be cool. I would bake some mini muffins. I would do a breakfast burrito bar maybe - some flour tortillas, make a big batch of scrambled eggs, cook off some breakfast sausage (not the kind in links or patties, just the kind that looks like regular ground beef), put out some cheddar cheese, sour cream, and salsa and people can make their own breakfast burritos. They are easy to eat because people can hold them in their hands. I might also do a fruit salad. I would also maybe make a breakfast juice punch. Mix equal parts of OJ and Cranberry juice with some sprite. Slice some oranges and float them on top.

I personally love old songs - like you can't go wrong with 80's pop music and 90's grunge at any party, but maybe that is too old for your generation. I would do a playlist like:

    Thriller - Michael Jackson

    Lyla - Oasis

More than a Feeling - Boston

Our Lips are Sealed - Go Go's

    Love Shack - B-52's

    Hey Mickey - Toni Basil

    Wrong Way - Sublime

    Machinehead - Bush

Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana

    Jesse's Girl - Rick Springfield

Love is a Battlefield - Pat Benetar

I don't know, maybe I'm just a dork. Oh well, have fun!
Lots of Techno music, or you could go low-key music if its in the morning. With like:

Death Cab for Cutie- (New CD Title, not song) Narrow Stairs

Chris Brown- (Any songs, teens love him. including me)

    Try:

Augustana- (New CD,) Can't Love, Can't Hurt

BOYS LIKE GIRLS!!! - (Self titled CD, Boys like Girls)

    Cartel- (Also Self titled)

Hellogoodbye- Zombies! Aliens! Vampires! Dinosaurs! (CD Name)

Kayne West- (You know the song Stronger? Yeah, thats him)

The Killers- (CD named Sam's Town)

That should help. Most are Album names, but you can go onto itunes, rapsody (or however you spell it) etc. and look up different songs that you like, and just pick songs, stick them on your ipod, or mp3 player w/e. and YOur SET!!
ive given you great website for the top 50 songs of the week

also i reccoment like fancy dress eg, fairy, superhero, cartoon charecter, the colour blue etc

nah its not weird having it early in the morning XD

    good luck !

    xx
Make some platters of fruit, pineapple, watermelon, grapes etc. Also, crackers and dips. Keep it simple and dont go too crazy with food. You could make some punch and serve it in hollowed out pineapples and coconuts.
Naturally you need to have chips, about half potato and the other half corn..... sodas, ummmmm........... watermelon....... breakfast foods........ songs, ummm...... really what you like. I really don't get why your having a morning pool party, but those are my suggestions

How do i restrict a teenagers' cell phone calls?

I am a young man with the responsibility of a 17 year old ';troubled teen'; girl. She is a good kid but needed to be taken out of the bad environment she was in with her parents.

I cant watch her 24/7 and i need to be able to get a hold of her while im at work.

I would like to be able to restrict her from calling certain ';friends'; and recieving these calls while I am at work.

I am desparate for help, I dont want her to keep in touch with old friends and fall back into old ways. thank youHow do i restrict a teenagers' cell phone calls?
take away her cell phone. How do i restrict a teenagers' cell phone calls?
Hve the number changed so only u know it.
get one of the kiddie fly phones.

    :]
You might look into a phone that she can use that she can only call you, the police, and the fire department. I believe there's a brand out called Firefly that does this. It might be a little young for her, so contact the cell phone company and ask them if there is a way to block all calls out but to you and emergency crews.

    Good Luck
Sit down and talk with her. Tell her if she continues to talk with these people you will get her a ';kid'; phone. You get the phone records every month so you'll know who she's talking to. If she continues, get her the ';kid'; phone.
check with the different companies many have kids phones where you program the numbers in and they can only call the preprogrammed numbers

    check the link

    http://www.gifts.com/search/product/Fire鈥?/a>
Some cell phone plans offer parental control limiting what numbers can be called. I believe there is also a way of limiting incoming calls as well. Contact the provider and find out what they offer.
Maybe you should worry about speaking to her about her behaviors, rather than trying to delete friends from her life. Remember that they may have been bad news, but they may also have been great support for her, and they may just be the sort of people that she feels comfortable talking to during times of need. Everyone deserves to have people like this in their lives.
I am not sure if you can block numbers so she cannot call or they cannot call her you should talk to your provider about that

but changing the number doesnt mean she wont call them

My suggestion is to get a kiddie phone they have some of those disney one's at wal-mart they are kinda like walkie-talkies and you can program 4 numbers in there and instead of dialing she jsut presses the green, blue, red, or yellow button. Its very good for kids and she will probably not like it but its my best guess you can program your cell phone, your house phone, your work phone, and maybe her parents home phone if she is allowed to talk to them if not then make up a fourth number so she cannot call her friends.

    Good Luck

    I hope this helps some
check and see if those calls can be block by the company. or your gonna have to tell her not to answer those phone call and just trust that she won't recieve those calls
TEENAGERS DO NOT NEED ELECTRONIC GADGETS!!!

Take the cell phone away and use a normal phone to call on.
I got my son a Sanyo SCP-3100 with Sprint.

You can program in the numbers that can be called and received.

It doesn't advertise it as a phone that can be locked down but it is in the owners manual.

It works great and even has a camera.

We have had it for 8 months and I like it better than the firefly phones.
    love her
I'm pretty sure, as long as you're the one paying her bill, that you can block certain numbers. Talk to the provider about it.
U HAVE TO HAVE RESTRAINING ORDER TO BLOCK SOME CALLS

Can anyone think of any UK alcohol adverts which appeal to teenagers?

SourceCan anyone think of any UK alcohol adverts which appeal to teenagers?
probably any of the WKD ones as they are funnyCan anyone think of any UK alcohol adverts which appeal to teenagers?
the wkd ones or the peter kay ones for john smiths
    all of them
The WKD ones, I guess the Carling ones do a bit, the one about being with you mates, and the 'probably' ones for Carlsberg, but I guess they're playing more on 'lads culture'

    Maybe Lambrini as well.

They've chilled out on the advertising though, remember Metz and Hooch adverts years ago, they aiming for a pretty young audience. I don't remember what they were like but I remember nagging my Mum like crazy for them lol!
yer the ones on between hollyoaks
They all do, haven't you seen our town centres on a Friday and Saturday nights.
yes the wkd advert it says have you got a wkd side it doesn't say have you got an adult wkd side so that one good be for children. you see if you look at any beer adverts or any ting like that none of them say anything about alcohol being especially for adults either.

  • Why to pre teen girls always obsess about wanting to become teenagers?

There are so many 11 year old girls that ';So can't wait to be 13';! out there. I mean why do all preteen girls think highschool is like highschool musical? They all wear way to much makeup and try to dress skimpier even than most teenage girls in attempt to look ';older';. I know there is going to be someone that says ';Your rude these girls are just excited about growing up'; I'm not being rude, it's just that I have an 11 year old cousin that tries to show off her AA boobs as much as she can with really tight shirts. I mean why do these girls always pretend to look physically mature? Why to pre teen girls always obsess about wanting to become teenagers?
All kids can't wait to grow up. That's the way it is.Why to pre teen girls always obsess about wanting to become teenagers?
Pupa is right--kids always want to be older, grownups always want to be younger.

Old saying: Time is too slow for those who wait and too fast for those who fear.

Along the teenage line, does anyone know any good books for teenagers from 13 up?

For I teen I recommend Meg Cabot's young adult books. She is the best author. Also best selling. She wrote tons of books including the Princess Diaries (Movies based on her books), Mediator (upcoming movie), 1-800-Missing (TV show based on her books), Jinx, and more. She has adult books too, so you can grow with her.

If you want more info or meg cabot's website email me.

P.S. Someone before me mentioned Gossip Girl. That is not appropriate for a 13 year old. That's more like 15-16.Along the teenage line, does anyone know any good books for teenagers from 13 up?
Virginia Andrews she has lots of series.

    i like the ones with

    midnight flight

    heaven

    shooting stars

    celeste

To kill a mockingbird by harper lee

    Premonitions-?

Harry potter is the best thing ever written!

    The power of one=bryce courtney

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Mao鈥檚 Last Dancer by Li Cunxin

The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton

I loved ALL of those books!Along the teenage line, does anyone know any good books for teenagers from 13 up?
Actually Mika, it's V.C. Andrews, not Virginia. But anyway, those books are good, I used to read them when I was a teenager.
My daughter (13) loves the Private collection by Kate Brian. They include Private, Invitation Only, Untouchable, Confessions and Inner Circle.
    ';The Best Little Girl In The World';

    -Steven Levenkron -

    ';Night';

    - Elie Wiesel -

    ';Of Mice And Men';

    -John Steinbeck-

Does anybody know any New Years Eve Party in London For teenagers(I am 15 years old)?

I really wat to go out , but there is anything out there for me and my best friend to do.Does anybody know any New Years Eve Party in London For teenagers(I am 15 years old)?
Throw one yourself, rent a hall.Does anybody know any New Years Eve Party in London For teenagers(I am 15 years old)?
Oh, wow, look, even if someone tells you of parties here, then I would really not suggest that you even consider going to them.

If I were you, I'd throw a party with your friend, have some fun with people you actually know instead of a party with complete strangers.

Do you think giving complete freedom of opinion and action to teenagers is right?

Opinion yes.... if the can be polite about it even better

Action not completely... but freedom to express them selves in a non harmful and constructive way yesDo you think giving complete freedom of opinion and action to teenagers is right?
You've got freedom of opinion. What you think is private and you don't have to admit it.

Freedom of action is quite another thing. When someone else is responsible for bringing you up they have a considerable degree of control. As you get older you should be trusted more and more to make your own decisions. Sooner or later you will have to take full responsibility for yourself. And I'd expect this of an eighteen year old so such a teenager should have more or less complete freedom of both.

But, of course, many parents want to continue to exercise a degree of control while they are supporting such a person in full-time education. And a wise teenager of 19 won't complain too much about it.Do you think giving complete freedom of opinion and action to teenagers is right?
freedom of opinion is always a great lesson for all no matter what age. for freedom of action i feel that you should be able to expression your opinions including love. i don't think that parents should be able to tell you that you are not allowed to see someone because your parents saw you do something with them that they don't agree with, like sex. i think the is being naive to your child's growth of maturity, as long as they are being safe, love should be highly looked at, especially when it is a steady relationship.
Freedom of opinion is okay, but not action. You have to remember that parents are financially responsible for anything their children do. Why should I have to pay for my children's choice of actions? So no, not action. They can wait until they are responsible financially for their actions and then do as they please.
I agree with everyone who says freedom of opinion is OK, but not freedom of action. If you want that, you need to be out living on your own, paying your own bills, etc. And even then your actions will be limited to some degree (by societal conventions, peer pressures, conscience, religious convictions, etc.).
    Freedom of opinion; of course.

I always taught my daughter to form her own opinions, and not to be afraid to express them.

Freedom of action; No-one has complete freedom of action. We all have limitations.
Freedom of opinion, absolutely yes, but if the teenager is still under my roof, then no to action..
As teenagers they are still immature.....perhaps not physically but they need experience of the world. As for action.....would you still trust your toddler to handle a sharp knife?
    Opinion = yes

    action = no
freedom of thought, but ever action has lt's consequence

How do you get teenagers to complete a task without cracking a whip or bribing?

It seems like you can give a teenager a simple project (like painting a window frame) and halfway through they stop because their tired or some other reason. All my friends have the same problem with their teenagers. I don't want to have to punish him and I don't think I should have to bribe him either. What do you do?How do you get teenagers to complete a task without cracking a whip or bribing?
If as a parent you have asked your teen to do something and they don't complete it, next time they want you to do something for them simply say, ya I'd love to just as soon as I get that window painted I asked you to do. Let them know if they expect you to do things for them its a two way street. How do you get teenagers to complete a task without cracking a whip or bribing?
I wouldn't call it punishing, I would call it consequences.

We always have tons of work to do around here, and most of the time we have to ride the kids. Sometimes I am amazed though that they take initiative and do things on their own.

Sometimes I write it down and say this is what I need done. It doesn't need to be done right now, but if you are planning something for later today, it needs to be done, and done well, at least an hour before you go.

And I follow through with it.

Also, if they do a half a** job just to get it done, they go back and do it again.

I get tired of pushing them, and sometimes I just have a group 'pep' talk, saying I don't ask them to do anything I wouldn't do myself, and if we all pitch in doing the dirty work it will be done much faster. I split them up so they don't argue, and I hope someday that they have kids just like theirselves!
Teen-agers.............. what a mess! I agree with Granny. When one of my kids do not complete a chore, I make a mental note. Then when they need a ride to the movies, the roller rink, a friends house or to the store.......... I tell them I am sorry I can not do it as I have to finish what they started and did not finish and I am too busy to get to it right now but when the chore is done I will let them know when I am ready. Most times it gets done but with a little huffing and puffing!
punish him so he could get his work done you can't make it easy for him what will happen when he gets into the real world
Who is the parent here? They don't go anywhere or do anything until they finish and have done it correctly. Would your boss let you do your job at your lesiure or not finish it? It teaches your kids to cope outside in the real world. It's called being a parent......
    as a teenager myself lol theres no other way hahaha sorry..it seems we have to have a good reason to do sumthin besides mom or dad said ';do it';
Try teaching him the value of hard work by helping him for a little bit, offer some guidance, and remind him he is not eating until it's done.
    Take away their Hormones!
Look at this way...if your teenager was at work and did not complete the task that was assigned then they would be fired. I think teaching teenagers work = pay.

What are some of the worst asspects of living with teenagers and why?

teens and problems and thank youWhat are some of the worst asspects of living with teenagers and why?
The biggest obstacle is teenagers think they know EVERYTHING when in fact they are too young to know much. They will realize this when they get older, but it is frustrating until then.

Yes, when I was a teenager, I thought I knew everything, even into my mid 20's.What are some of the worst asspects of living with teenagers and why?
My teens were actually raised in a different time: I can

tell you what I know from then, and what I see with my

    grandchildren though.

It seems like a hard time...they are trying to figure out who

and what they are and what to be, how to fit in and how

to get out of the places inside and out, that they don't

    want to be in.

They want to be their own selves, but they're still at least

somewhat dependent on others for their needs, so this

leads to resentment and rebelling. The parents seem so

stupid, with all the rules and regulations, and most

teens seem to be bent on pushing as hard as they

can, to prove that they don't have to listen or obey.

On top of this, the hormones, OMG. Up, down, sideways

and upside down. Smile can be tears, anger or

sarcasm with the moment's notice. Little kid one time,

    trying-sophisticate the next, roller coaster.

Having people tell them this is the best years of their

life, and that they're too big for this, old enough to know

better, but not grown up enough for the other, does

    not help.
OK, where to start? My older sister use to tell me that know one likes teen agers. I though that she was mean.

Then 1 by 1 my sweet babys have become teen agers.

They are selfish, rude, lazy. they have to be. The are going from being kids to being men and women. don't worry it only lastes till they are 24. Good luck!
One of the worst aspects with living with teens is that most of them are very self centered. They still haven't gotten the fact that the world does not revolve around them so they expect everyone to please them.
They're selfish, bitchy, sleep a lot in common spaces, hog the bathroom, telephone, Television, and computer, as well as the food supply, and they smell really bad a lot of the time.
teenagers are not mature thinkers, there focus is liming, shopping, etc.

they keep there surrounding dirty, and dont clean up after themselves,

    they hate responsibility
They can be sullen and apathetic for no other reason than that they are bored. Perhaps they have been socially spoiled by our Betty Crocker culture.

Why is it that teenagers are so eager and anxious to grow up, and be intimate?

As teenagers, we have grown up with the idea of sex being a normal thing at our age. When our friends start, we start to fit in. Not because we really want to grow up, its just an 'in' thing for alot of teenagers.

We see TV/Movies and Magazines that all openly discuss teenage sex and we are pressured to do it so we can feel normal, and that we are at the right stage in our life

:)Why is it that teenagers are so eager and anxious to grow up, and be intimate?
well, if they constrained by the age thing and can't ';be intimate'; with their boy/girlfriend at the age they are now legally, they may be eager to grow up so that they can be the appropriate age and do whatever they want without people always breathing down their necks. they also want to be intimate because their hormones are taking over, and their emotions in that department can become very expressive. for some, intimacy is a way of showing they love someone else...or just relieving the sexual desire that being a teen builds up.Why is it that teenagers are so eager and anxious to grow up, and be intimate?
Why is it that parents are so desperate to keep teenagers as kids?

100 years ago (not even), we married at 18 (or younger), had children by 20. Girls finished school at 13 and helped there mothers at home. Boys of 6 helped there fathers on the farm. What is western sosietys obsession with making teens children? They are eager to grow up and be intimate, because thats how we were made. We were made to be young adults at 16, not big kids.
Because teens think they know everything.Peer pressure play apart just as well as what they watch on TV.They just curious. They don't here anything negative about being intimate besides the diseases and side effects they can get but they never heard that sex is bad everyone likes it to them. And the more you try to talk to them about it the more they want to have it.
    I have no idea.

I feel that a lot of teens use the excuse that their hormones are raging and they can't control it, but in my opinion, you can control it. How? Don't put yourself in a tempting situation.

I'm 19 years old, have never had sex, and I've been dating my boyfriend for 10 months. I know it probably sounds weird, since most girls seem to lose their virginity by 16. I've made it this far because I am firm in my beliefs, and my boyfriend feels the same way I do. It makes it easier that way. We don't put ourselves in a situation where it would be easy to have sex.

I mostly feel like it's their parent's fault. Parents think, ';My child is smart enough to not have sex'; and just ignore any signs of any ';teenager-like'; activity. Then they're shocked when their 14 year old comes home and tells that she's pregnant. What did you expect if you've never told your child about sex?!
    I have no idea!!

But they need to just chill out and be kids!!

Seriously its way more fun being a kid than being an adult.

Being an adult you have to pay bills and go to work and it sucks. Plus if the kids get pregnant then they really cant have a childhood anymore.

Young kids need to just enjoy being a child....go to the park, and hang out with your friends and quit trying to grow up so quick!

Thats just how I see it though, maybe kids feel pressured to do these things and grow up!

    =]
Not all of them are. They also may not want to grow up they just might want to experience intamacy. They are sexual beings too and they have desires just like adults. Don't you remember being a teen. It's rough and everything's changing teens will do what they want the best thing to do is to educate them and be there for them...then they probably won't do stupid things.
i dont know.. i was like that when i was younger and i regret it so much.. i was 4 years old wishin i had boobs and used to put swimming goggles underneath my shirt... when i was 6 years old i used to wear my moms pads because i wanted my period, when i was 9 i wanted my period so bad i used to cry... i dont know why i think its peer preasure or curiousity
I think its because teenagers just want to be able to do what they want. i am 19, i just wish my parents would just pretend i dont exist (can you do this, do that, go there, take that, do this..blah blah blah) its like i just cant be left alone. So..maybe if i try to be grown-up..i will be trusted and left alone to do as i plz. i have myself a job, i got my own cash..i wanna move out and sort myself out..i dont want to be stuck at home for the rest of my life doing what mama wants...maybe im just a wierdo..oh well
we dont like want to to prove anything

we want to because you get those cravings you cant resist x]]

    you were a teenager once

    think about it

and im anxious to grow up because i dont like being treated

like a 10year old and think i deserve more adult like respect
i wouldnt blame this all on the media.

see, i think all teenagers want to be intimate because of all their hormones. i am a teenager myself. we want to grow up, and have all the freedom and independence that we can get. its just part of life.
Because they feel the need to be loved by people.

Most of the time it's because they're parents aren't around to care about them and they think if they have sex, someone will love them.
im more eager to grow up

    get a car.

    move out.

    get a job.

    make a family.

and maybe a few boyfriends along the way.

but i have morals so it's not like i'm going to have sex with all of them.
    Media potrays it as normal.
They want to be adults so bad and sex is the one thing they can do to ';be'; an adult.
    t.v

What are the best gifts to give for birthdays to teenagers?

hi well what greater way to answer your question than a teenager herself well in my opinion for example for my birthday i like to receive gift cards from my favorite stores so i can purchase what i want without having to return it if i don't like and so i don't think you should buy cloths especially for a teen girl just get her a gift card or music players like mp3's which are really cheep right now trust me she'll be happy but for a teen boy i suggest electronics like also music players or video games for which ever system he has like PlayStation or xbox my brother got the the fifa 07 and he couldn't be happier i even like playing it but anyways those are just some of my ideas try going to wal mart at:http://www.walmart.com but this is only if you have a boy teen trust me you do NOT want to get a teen girl a wal mart card for cloths that's so bad but its great for electronics only that! anyways good luck chau! What are the best gifts to give for birthdays to teenagers?

if it is a girl-make-up, clothes or giftcards but for boys i have no idea.
I would say a gift card to a favorite store unless you've been given a list of things the teen would like.
As a teenager myself, I would like money, gas cards (if your teen drives), or a cool party. If you really want to make your gift special give him or her a car, computer, flat-screen tv, or go on vacation!
Condoms. Kids nowadays don't know the meaning of safe-sex anymore.

this one kid asked me what I eat for breakfast. And I told him I eat cereal. And he said that I suck.

I dont get it though. How do I suck by just eating cereal, it has a lot of vitamins and fiber. Is it weird for teenagers to eat cereal for breakfast?
    that kid is dumb

    everyone eats cereal

even old people, and adults eat stuff like special k and stuff

Is it weird for teenagers to eat cereal for breakfast?
He might've been expressing sarcasm. Who cares what he thinks? It's the breakfast of champions. Frankly, I think it's disgusting to stuff yourself with greasy bacon and carb-filled biscuits. Not to mention the atrocity that is waffles and pancakes. No dear, cereal is not a weird breakfast food.

There is nothing wrong eating cereal in the morning. In my family we all do it. With our schedule going to work and my teenage girls going to school that is quick and easy breakfast plus it is nutritious. They even eat it for dinner sometimes .

SO MORE POWER TO YOU AND KEEP EATING CEREAL
It's pretty normal to me. I know a lot of teens that eat cereal, and I myself am a teen that occasionally has cereal for breakfast (sometimes other times in the day as well, lol).

Don't listen to him, he doesn't know what he's talking about xD
ITS A GREAT PART OF BREAKFAST TO EAT CEREAL. I EAT IT SOME TIMES AND IT TASTES GOOD AND IT IS GOOD. THE PEOPLE WHO DON'T EAT BREAKFAST AREN'T VERY GOOD BECAUSE BREAKFAST IS THE MOST IMPORTANT MEAL OF THE DAY. SO YOU GO TO THAT KID AND ASK HIM WHAT HE EATS FOR BREAKFAST. IF E SAYS NOTHING THEN TELL HIM THAT YOU ARE GOING TO BE LOOKING ALIVE DURING THE DAY WHILE HE FEELS LAZY AND TIRED. IF HE DOES SAY SOMETHING THEN ASK HIM WHATS SO GOOD ABOUT THAT.
Dude, I'm 20 and I still eat Pop Tarts for breakfast. If you suck, then how bad am I? You need to shrug that kind of crap off man. His opinion of you is worth about as much as a seven dollar bill, (there's no such thing, hence it's worthless...). CEREAL ROOOOOLZ AND I DON'T CARE WHO THINKS OTHERWISE!!!
ahahaha. I'm guessing you weren't supposed to take that so seriously.

    but even if you were,

he says you suck... but think about the type of person he is; he asks people what they have for breakfast.

    Who the balls asks that?
Yeah! cereal is healthy and if you like it keep eating it... and that kid sucks if he doesn't eat cereal. There are no foods that anyone shouldn't be ashamed of eating by their age except maybe baby food lol but who cares about that stupid kid!
No, its normal. All of my friends in University eat cereal, all my high school friends eat it, that kid is just some crack pot.
That kid is lame. Why would it suck to eat cereal for breakfast? It is a breakfast meal. Maybe he wants to eat cereal , and he doesn't get crap.
why do u care is a better question.. if u like cereal then eat it.. i love cereal.. but i don't eat breakfast on weekdays cuz i don't have enough time before school
He's a retard. Everyone eats cereal or poptarts. If he doesn't eat cereal that he probably starves and goes without. Tell him only the cool kids eat cereal.
A lot of people eat cereal, so I don't know what planet that kid is from...but he probably said it as a joke to you. Don't take it so seriously. LMAO.
idk im a teenager and i find it weird that the majority of us dont eat breakfast, i love it and i love cereal so..he sucks
I ate cereal all the time when I was a teenager, and not just for breakfast! Throw some fruit (bananas, blueberries, strawberries) in to make it extra tasty!
haha can't believe you even listened to him! you can eat what you want!
that guy is obviously just ignorant...i eat cereal too, unless i have toast....but cereal's nice....u dont suck just because u eat a normal breakfast like everyone else!
It's perfectly normal for ANYONE to eat cereal for breakfast.
He is weird, don't mind almost everybody, from all ages eat cereal!!

its full of vitamins %26amp; minerals, rich in fiber %26amp; low in fat!!!

U can even eat it as a snack!!!!!!
ahaha that's stupid... no HE'S stupid ahaha!
There's nothing wrong with eating cereal. Don't worry about what others think - eat anything you like for breakfast.
Do not listen to your stupid ignorant friend... I'm 16 and I LOVE CEREAL

I use to eat Cornflakes CoCo Crunch, etc. With Milk.... MmmM
There's nothing wrong with eating cereal for breakfast.. its a normal thing most people do.

    Maybe hes a toast lover?

Dont take it to heart :) x
if you told him you eat it for the vitamins and fiber then thats why he said you suck

    eating cereal is normal

cereal is good and will help you get through the early part of the day i eat cereal and im a teenager
he's a kid and you shouldn't pay atention to him. He probably doesn't even like cereal.
Ok I'm 22 and I eat Frosted Flakes and Fruit Loops all the time.
No. As Tony the tiger would say they're grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat.
no!! he probably dnt like cerials!! i love it! especially in z mrnin'!!

    btw.. im 15
It's not werid cereal tastes good!
no everyone that i know eats cereal.

They are not practicing water conservation, energy conservation such as electricity.
Well they don't waste water (boys at least) as they never seem to wash.

The girls wear to much make up meaning more packaging.

Do you think all teenagers drink alcohol even?

if a teenager is negative about alcohol in parties, saying ';when it comes to teenage parties, i dont really know - its dangerous if you dont have self-discipline'; - do you think he or she is drinking anyway himself?Do you think all teenagers drink alcohol even?
no.. teens tend to brag about being drunk/drinking at partiesDo you think all teenagers drink alcohol even?
my brother is 18 and he's only had a sip in church and only when he made his 1st communion. He's never smoked either...yet, i have been drunk off my a$s when i was in HS and i smoke like a train
No. I'm sure there are some teenagers that do not drink alcohol.
    Not all teenager drink alcohol.
It sounds like that person is playing a manipulation game. For someone to claim they dont have self discipline, that is not true.

I never drank at as a teenager. I focused more on school. I didnt have a group of people that drank. I only hung out with n3rds, and these nerds didnt drink.
i actually do not know why people just assume that all teenagers drink alcohol. it really, really annoys me. There are many teenagers who've never drank before, and will not drink until it is legal for them to do so.

so, no i don't think all teenagers drink alcohol.

about the teeanger being negative, i doubt they do drink, they are probably speaking the truth.
No I don't think all teenagers drink. But there are those that do. Who they are I have not a clue, its a Parents Job and Responsibility to know what their Teenagers are doing, and its their Responsibility to Teach their child about such things.

I think Our Young Adults/Teens have so much to worry about these days, and so much to deal with(my heart goes out to them)...and They Really Alot to offer to this World!

I know of many Young Adults/teens that I am So Proud of!!

and I know that there are many Wonderful Teens out there too!

I give All Teens a Hands up in this day and age!

Some are just growing up to fast! and they feel that there is No One out there that cares either! But ...I for one...I Do Care!
    No.
yes alot of them do but not all me and my friends so.
    The simple Answer is No

    - Muslims don't

    - I don't

The teenagers who drink, drink because they think its something to help them relax and loosen up and also laugh about when someone gets drunk so they can make conversation

Most teenagers around 16 to 20 will drink, however are are still a minority that drink once every few months or year or some not at all.

If they are negative about alcohol at a party they probely do drink but are justing trying to give an excuse not to drink and pretend that they are displined but 90% of people who go to a rave when they are a teenager will drink anyway, if it is avaliable to them.

When will Obama give teenagers more days off from school?

I am tired of going to school everydayWhen will Obama give teenagers more days off from school?
After he gives everybody a job. When will Obama give teenagers more days off from school?
More days off? A school year is what, 180 days? That is less than every other day at six hours a day. Compare that to working a regular job for about 250 days at eight hours. That is 1080 hours a year for school compared to 2000 hours for working a job. The American school system is in the dumps and even our colleges barely do enough.

You should be hoping that Obama makes school better so that it doesn't bore you. I went to a great high school and only wish we had more time in school instead of vegging out in front of the TV.
To stem some over crowding and resources

There should be some schools that start at 12 noon and go until 5

this would help some teens who due to body changes want to sleep all the time...an idea that has been studied

If made schools and teaching more interesting...many will be happy to learn

BUT teens also must understand that teen years soon turn to adult years and they pass quick..how unsure because at that age they already think they know it all...lol

Friends in Canada have areas where they go to school 4 days per week and same hours as ones who go 5. attendance is up and as lo saves on school budget....many ideas out there

Just needs people to get on it

    (;
move to california and you will get your wish

my sister moved there with 3 kids and they are not required to attend for 5 weeks if they feel that they are not comfortable with it

and to people who say it is not true

my sister lives there and her daughter is shy and does not like school

and they said do not worry let her stay home
Sure, why not. Oh wait, maybe not since if you are not in the public (socialist) school system, perhaps the indoctrination won't take.

Obama is also gonna make it rain candy, and there will be rainbows and unicorns for everyone!
When he was giving a farce speech in Indiana he spoke to a nine year old about supporting the education system. All he said was you have to work hard, really hard. That's original.

    In other words NOTHING.

WORK HARDER AND NO DAYS OFF!

    Socialism.Learn that while your there.
The states and respective cities (or towns) in those states make that decision. The President does NOT have that much power. If you don't realize this, then you need to go to school more often than you do.
Doubtful. Last thing this country needs are a bunch of teenagers not having anything to do without parental supervision.

That is how Bristol Palin got pregnant.
That's not up to Obama. That's up to your state or more likely your local government and it depends how much money they have to see if you would get a day off.
Sure! Just go down to the welfare or unemployment office. You can sit there all day %26amp; no one will bother you.
You call yourself ';The Unknown'; with your attitude you will be known as ';The Unknowing';.
Next year, President's Day is out the window. Obama Week is in.
obama was actually in support of extending school hours

    not shortening them...
Sorry but the ';Butts in seats'; law applies and you most show up for the school to get Federal funding.
Just drop out and go on welfare he will take care of you......that is what socialism is.....see another person who wants something for nothing.....
School days on run by each state.

    So NO
don't worry when he bankrupts us all the public schools will lose their funding and have to be closed

Why are so many teenagers obsessed with finding boyfriends/girlfriends?

    i never really understood that, %26amp; i'm 14

    there's plenty of people my age at my school, who are obsessed with losing their virginity, cause they think it's ';cool';

personally, i like being single. %26amp; i want to keep it that way for a while. Why are so many teenagers obsessed with finding boyfriends/girlfriends?
Its a teen thing alright, I look at this way. We spend our younger years trying to avoid the opposite sex, trying not to sit next to them (boy girl seating is a punishment in lower school) because they are strange and alien to us, but you realize how great it is to spend time with them. For me it wasn't so much have a girlfriend but just to spend time with a female, and not look stupid doing so. Maybe others like to take this further than just spending time them.

This is also a time where Teens become more mature and they aspire to that guy who has the nice looking man/women.

PS. Not all teens are obsessed with itWhy are so many teenagers obsessed with finding boyfriends/girlfriends?
It has always been that way.

It is fashionable to be in a relationship at that age. No one wants to feel left out, and many assume that not having one marks them as undesirable.
because it is forced at them from every angle. movies, tv shows, celebrities, peers, and their surroundings stress the importance of having someone, and how great it is to be loved.
    Some because if you have a bf/gf then you're ';cool';

Some because a partener makes you feel wanted and special

    Some cause its fun.
i am dying to know this as well. I'm 14 and fail to see the hurry in finding someone so quickly. It just puts more stress and drama in people's lives, as if we need anymore!
I don't know. Dating's a pretty good thing, but we're only in high school. It aint serious yet.
because everybody is lookin for love
Because the world is going to END in 2012!

  • What is it with teenagers these days?

The teens in my class are so weird, they bash the USA and Americans everyday, call them every name under the sun and then at the same time talk about how glad they are that the UK now has proms, sweet 16, cheerleading, captain of the football team, prom king/queen and year books. What is it with teenagers these days?
Why dont you just ignore them and get on with your life, its not that important.

Because its an extreme Americanization and i knew i wouldnt enjoy it i refused to attend my school prom. What is it with teenagers these days?
because, they like having proms, year books ect ect because thats what you see in all the american teen movies, but i think they think they take things too far, and go on about the prom for example. and they always have the same groups of people in the films, like cheerleaders and football team = popular, and so on. but its not like that in most schools.and i think that sweet 16 birthdays have always been quite big in the uk, but not as big as in usa as thats like the uk;s 18 and 21 birthday.
Just because the UK has those things now , that means that the must like the whole entire country for it? , Thats not how people think nevermind teens, They have never been the the US so americans shouldnt take offence its just what teens do , who cares , i like america and im britsh , but all my class mate always bash England , cos we are scottish , but its not like weve ever been to enlgland, cos most of us havent.
this happens a lot but i think most of these things have happened in UK for a while but just not a big and as much as the USA-i have to admit that yes, i do dis them, but only as like a mess about, but i would love to live in america instead of s**t little england but we've always had captains of the football team!
ALOT OF PEOPLE ON YAHOO! LIVE IN UK!! crazy, well times are really bad in USA, beleive me the houses are soaring down, even my dad lost his job and hes been working there for 10 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!SO CRAZY! it took him so many months to get a new job, and now we have to move! and i had recently transfered schools which used to be one of the best in nation but its horrible! and eduacation is horrible!! some ppl might like how America has all these stuff, and i can't beleive you guys don't have that!!!!!SOME PPL MIGHT BE A LITTLE MEAN, JELOUSY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IM glad ur not like that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!… LUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…
This may sound mean, but we US'ers don't really care what those of you in other countries think. We are too caught up in our on lives.

However, if you come over here for a study abroad or foriegn exchange, we will be super sweet to you and ask you all kind's of questions about your country. We like to make friend's.

Edit- What is a brown bag??
I have no idea. I'm from Spain, and have just moved to The UK... They're just all a buch of hypocrites, though. And what is up with random people hanging round on CORNERS, in the FREEZING COLD SNOWY WEATHER, wearing HOODIES?!
    thats not wierd, thats sensible,

i used to live in england, and now in the USA

it was much better, and you all are queer gits over here.
    I don't know.

I think that the U.S.A is amazing! Anything can happen, have you seen the past election?

Next time, stick up for the U.S., tell them what can happen here and that all of that stuff came from the U.S.A.
    That's probably just your class.

I have an American in my class, and she's awesome!

    Loads of people love her.

No-one really ';bashes'; the USA or America in my class...
err thats just your school. hypocrits.

everyone i know loves america and wants to go, nearly every girl in my school owns a little brown bag, including me.
Teenagers are crazy. They always have been. I'm a teenager, and I'll admit I'm pretty crazy.
I adore America and am fascinated by it.
    hahah maybe they're on crack?

Dunno wherabouts you live in the uk, but I live in london and most people here wear I heart ny tshirts 24/7 and we've never even been to new york :P
I agree with the first answer, we are all hypocrites.
    Jealousy.
because we are all hypocrites without even noticing.
because people in america think we are the ****..and yeah hahaha.
I didn't know that. Thank you for sharing it.
It's just what Teenagers talk about. We all have different point of views.
    i HATE america

    it stinks of ***t
okay. so they're from the uk...?
teens are the best lol =D

i am sure they are just having some fun
    i don't no
    ahhh thats lifee
I'm Irish- we laugh at the Yanks and the Brits.
    Cus we're all hypocrites.

    All my best (:

Us Americans are hated by everyone it seems and I could care less. I love to be hated.

Is it okay for teenagers to start soccer? Or can it be utterly embarassing by more experienced team mates?

i posted this a while back. i didnt get many responses. Is it okay for teenagers to start soccer? Or can it be utterly embarassing by more experienced team mates?
I think a few of these people said it pretty well already........ its about passion....the heart has no age..... I started playing when I was 17........ that same year I was a top player on my team and received several honors......it helps to be in shape and mentally prepared to take in information and be able to apply it physically......... but soccers about playing soccer.....not about being good at soccer....... which every strives forIs it okay for teenagers to start soccer? Or can it be utterly embarassing by more experienced team mates?
its fine, but teens stick with what they do so think about it
yeah its okay i play it now and i love it! who cares if its embarrassing!! as long as you know how to kick and run after a ball.. your good!!
As long as a person is willing to play there is no reason not to play soccer, no one should think that they are going to play like Maradona on the first day, it takes a lot of time and practice to become a descent player.

Many professional players have admitted to have started playing soccer when they were teenagers and actually played other sports before they played soccer.
I think it depends on how much you deal with stuff like that.

i think that if you want to start brand new, you should sign up for a team with other kids just starting soccer. But if you are going into a higher league team, then i think that you shouldn't only because the other players may be held back some.

but, if soccer is what you truly love, i suggest maybe waiting a year and totally working on your soccer skills all year until it re-starts.

who knows? you could be great. :)
I would say go for it. that's what a coache is put there for, to relaxe all feeling of nervousness you may soon to have.and I would think your teammates would offer support. So don't worry it's gonna be a team sport. Bring home that trophy.
I would say that it is entirely possible for u to start as a teenager. Ive been playing since i was extremely young and im pretty good now, but the reason i play is because i want to play competitively. Obviously if youre just playing for fun than you can join whenever you want. If youre going to play for a league with players that have played for a long time than you have to usually tryout. If youre in a conditioned enough shape that u can make the team then you should definetly play. You might not be the best but the coaches obviously though you were good enough so have fun!
im 15 and i started soccer when i was like 4. my team will be in sweden for the youth world cup in 1 week. i cannot go because i will be getting knee surgery (so sad) but i will tell you that that would be really hard for the teenager whether it be you or your son/daughter!

something like running would be good. the teenager could join his/her high school track team if it is to keep fit. sometheing like soccer does not only require being in shape, but it requires skills that take a long time to acqire!

at that age the ';hopeful player'; should at least be strong and conditioned or have good stamina if they are really interested in playing.

but i guess nothings impossible so its your choice
as long as you love and have a passion for soccer, it doesn't really matter how old you are
its ok do it i did itll tern out great team menbers will help u to get better if dont do so great

Is it normal for teenagers to feel like this?

I'm a sophomore %26amp; the school year is over in like 3 weeks. I feel like I literally have no like big things that happened this year- no boyfriends, no hookups, same friends as usual doing the same usual things. I'm like, how is this year over? It was pointless. High school is supposed to be the bestt.

Love Haydee %26lt;3Is it normal for teenagers to feel like this?
this is my last year of junior high.

i was thinking the same thing..about 3 weeks ago. there was only 5 weeks of school, i still had the same friends (not very good ones), never had a boyfriend...which means still no first date, still no first kiss.

i am serious..in the past two weeks everything changed! i made a new different group of friends..im doing more stuff now im more happy. a guy asked me out, i went on my first date last wednesday and i had my first kiss :). i never knew any of that was going to happen 3 weeks ago.

so you never know whats going to happen. Is it normal for teenagers to feel like this?
Of course it's normal. Sophomore year isn't really a high point of High School. Freshmen year is exciting because, hey, you're starting into a new world! You're in a new building (usually) and you get to be considered a teenager and hang out with a crowd of older kids. Junior year means you get to be one year closer to graduation, you're older then most people but still a bit younger then the seniors and you get to participate in more things and, usually, you can drive. You yourself may be a bit more mature. Senior year is senioritis. You do whatever you want, participate in everything and get to plan on becoming an adult. As I said, sophomore is bleh. You're in between. Everyone is still trying to decide who they want to be throughout high school. It can be depressing to see how fast it goes by just because you didn't get to do much. It'll get better.

You're a junior next year, come on, get excited! Graduation is coming on fast!
Yeah... it's kind of normal... try next year joining a club your interested in with a friend or two... getting together after school... start a band if your musically inclined. Participate in a talent show... something that you can look back on and remember. You'll find some enjoyment somewhere.

I'm a sophomore too and i hate the year is over. Hi... i'm John! Haha! : )
Im a sophmore too.. that sounds like my freshman year... nothing big really happened then it led up to me having a great summer... thats life. sometimes good things come up, some times they dont... dont look at the big picture, it seems like you havent had anything bad... no break ups or anything... embrace what you have now... these times of just hanging with friend ';doing the same usual thing'; these are the time of your life.
Also from the sound of things lots of perfectly good times and not a lot if anything that went wrong or was bad. You should be very happy for that. Some years will contain events you really would prefer to skip, trust me!

The year may not have been great, but at least it could have been far, far worse. So look on the bright side :)
Hey it's up to you to enjoy high school. You should try different thing like joining campus activities, organizations and other things school has to offer. All of this might mean new friends, new things to do, new boyfriend/s.. Get what I mean?
High-school is awkward, but you will have your time to shine senior year. Join more activities, yearbook club allows you to get to know everyone - and gives you a good reason to get out of class sometimes!
Yeah, you'll have times like that. I just graduated from high school and I'm so glad. There were some really good times and then after/on our last day of school, we really partied it up. You have to make the best of things.
yeah, i feel that way too. i feel like nothing happened this year, and i feel like it can't be over. i guess it is normal.
    No, actually

i'm happy nothing BIG is happening so far this year. ;]

Honestly to much **** happens in my life it's almost relaxing now.
Aha, yeah. I'm a freshman and I feel that way. There were some fun times, but nothing really happened that was memorable.
I know how you feel, school ends in 8 days for me.

NOTHING good happened.I thought high school was suppose to be like the best as well but I got 3 more years lets see

How can we get teenagers to stop smoking?

Seeing what happens to people that do abuse drugs and smoke drives me away from it. We need to show them that. I'm a teenager myself, and my friends and I cringed as we watched videos in health. How can we get teenagers to stop smoking?
Two things that we can do to help. A: Stop smoking ourselves! It is hard to teach a lesson when you are doing the same thing that you are trying to get them to not do. B: Show them what the outcomes of their actions. My wife and I both work at a hospital and both of us see on a daily basis the consequences of smoking, lung cancer, emphazema, etc. etc.How can we get teenagers to stop smoking?
I'm a teenager and I don't smoke. I'm not even sure how you get a teenager to stop smoking. I think you need to use the fear tactic. I know a mom who caught her kid smoking and made her pick up every cigarette butt on the side of the highway.

Actually I did a science fair project on quitting and it seems that most teens smoke out of peer pressure or stress. Yes teenagers have stress. It's hard being 16 and saying no.

Whatever happened to alcohol abuse? Oh yeah, by the way kids don't get lung cancer but go on ahead and destroy your liver.
Its pretty simple, the only answer to your question is you cant. Teenagers are going to do what they want regaurdless of what you tell them. In fact, the more you tell them not to do somthing the better chance they are going to do it just to make you mad. im 16 and im just saying this from what my friends and i all think. If you have a kid who smokes, the best thing to do is tell them you think they are making a mistake, and after awhile they are sure to grow out of it.
shoot them, sew their lips closed, tell them its kool,
stop making cigaretts... and paper... and leaves... teens will smok no matter what, if they stop that they will take up huffing, or injecting... tht is for the teens who are stupid enough to smoke...
by stiffening the penalties to people who buy them for underage smokers and to businesses who sell them to underage kids. hope this helps. good luck.
smoking is disgusting......... u should show how wrinkly they will look after smoking for a couple years.......
Have a 400% tax on cigarettes.

The resulting taxes should go directly into teen

education, helping the government pay for

the health problems associated with smoking

and providing aid to other countries who are

    trying help their people.

By making the production of cigarettes

    generally unprofitable, we'll drive cigarette

    companies out of business.

No, they don't have a right to exist.

People have a right to exist. People

have a right to express themselves.

    Companies, particularly such destructive

    companies, DO NOT.
You can't, they are going to do what they want to because they are teenagers..
You can't. Some teens will smoke and some teens won't. Don't pressure them not to becuase they will simply rebel. Teens will do as they please. Smoking is only hurting their insides slowly. I would worry more about the ones that cut, smoke weed, ect.
the same way we get adults to.
... adults can't stop ... why should we ever think that Kids can stop ... if you care that much, you might want to consider starting a Nicotine Anonymous group in your home town ... that's what I did ... stop talking about helping and START helping ... go to www.nicotine-anonymous.org for more info ...
Wish there was a way, my 17 year old daughter used to be against smoking, drinking, pot...all of it and this year has turned around and started doing it all. Don't know what to do...hard to control when they are this age..we don't allow her to drive but all her friends do. Don't give her money anymore either. She knows the dangers..she sings and that is one reason she never did it. All of a sudden things changed. I expected her to try all this at some point though, I think it would be a little unusual not to. I am 47 and was pretty much the perfect kid but I eventually tried it all too. Part of growing up..hopefully they will also wise up and stop.
easy...stop having Truth commercials that say they are against drugs, but in reality are promoting drugs.

I just got done watching a truth commercial about why you shouldn't smoke pot....then at the very end of the commercial they basically show u have to roll a joint with a little 10 frame animation.

The way you get kids to stop smoking is to brainwash them into not wanting to smoke. It's hard to make someone do something that they don't wanna do. Kids will do things that people tell them not to do b ecause they are in taht stubborn stage.

I would say stop telling kids what ';NOT'; to do and that would fix alot of these problems with these kids.

or if ur a parent and find your kids smoking just beat their **** and tell them to stop smoking.
We could ban cigarettes and stop the adults from smoking first. That'll clear most of it up.
Were are stupid as teenagers!!! im 1 of the few lucky ones...im good at saying NO and cigarettes make me physically sick,,,the first time i tried it i puked and my stomach hyrt akk nite long!! but its hard....the ones i know who have stopped has been cuz f family probs with smoking!!
make it illegal to buy cigarettes if you are under 18....oh wait...we did that... I guess enforce it then by punishing stores that dont check ID. Oh wait...we do that already. How about be a better parent to them and not have both parents working so that you can give them ';a better life'; when in fact you are making thier lives worse because they grow up without both parents around so thye get into trouble....yeah that sounds right
tell them that smoking cause brain damage. if they have decided to try to quit smoking. theres a tips on tis site that tell how to stop smoking
Force them to smoke say 3 packs consecutively....and watch how sick they get. They won't touch em again!
stop letting the adults buying them for thier kids.
    Honestly, you can't.

Anybody teenager or adult has to have the desire and will to quit or not start.

You can preach, ground, and do whatever.. nothing will help.

Get over it, if your teenager smokes there is nothing you can do about it.

Remember, there are teens out there trying to get their parents to quit.
Bring them to an old folks home and let them see all the patients with tubes connected to the throats and lungs.. that should work. My mother died of lung cancer.. it pretty much sucks to lose someone you love so much at the age of 57. It is suck an awful addiction and kids just think it is so cool. Look like a bunch of monkeys with no clue they are killing themselves and others in the meanwhile. You would think they would want to stay healthier at a young age.
make them smoke an entire carton of ciggs.

they wont want to smoke ciggs anymore.

my parents did that to me and i stay away from them

Question for teenagers pt 4. What is something that you believe adults don't understand about being a teenager?

sometimes adults forget how hard it is!Question for teenagers pt 4. What is something that you believe adults don't understand about being a teenager?
They don't understand that we WILL mess up and we WILL make mistakes in life. If a teenager makes one mistake, suddenly, they are seen as a stupid, immature person. Which obviously is not the case in everybody. Teenage years are hard too, it's like adults just forget about that. They're quite judgemental of whatever we do, no matter what it is. We're seen as just trouble. Obviously, there's certain adults who do understand these things, but the ones I have come across have no understanding whatsoever of these things.Question for teenagers pt 4. What is something that you believe adults don't understand about being a teenager?
Some adults still understand. Others kind of forget the whole depression and stress we have to go to. Well, everyone goes through it even if you're an adult. But especially now. It's nothing like the 90's, 80's, etc. Things changed and there's more dangerous things kids do. Sure they had problems back then. But now kids are getting more angry and don't care about anything. Like we're half dead. :P

I also hate it when most of them think all teenagers are trouble makers and sex addicts.
    they just dont understand how we think! and they think they know and understand everything about us just because ';they've been us before';
That people like violent video games like Grand Theft Auto and Halo. Teens can be cruel.
independence and privacy and that their are growing up
That we're not trying to be bad or horrible. We're trying to be good adult people.

Is it legal for teenagers to be in a VFW post where drinks are served?

most places serve food too so anyone can be in there, just not sitting AT the bar. Other places will say 21and OVER after a certain time of night. Is it legal for teenagers to be in a VFW post where drinks are served?
That would be governed by your state laws. Different states have different laws about when minors are allowed to be in establishments that serve alcohol. It often depends also on if they are serving food or just alcohol. Is it legal for teenagers to be in a VFW post where drinks are served?
Absolutely not! If they could then you could say that they could purchase alcoholic beverages from a Super Market. After all, it's not intended to be a bar . . . It's a grocery store!
Depends on state laws. I found in Canada that no one under 21 could be in the room the bar was in. None that I know of allow minors to sit at the bar but can sit at a table.
as long as they're not drinking themselves sure but call them and ask.

    Lunch Ideas For Teenagers?

Hi, I'm 14 years old, and would like a better lunch variety for when I am at home and hungry.(I'm growing tired of Chef Boyardee.) Okay, I am not a great chef, but I have basic skills- I can boil water, slice and dice, use the oven and stove, and I know the definition of a colander. I need good recipes for lunch that can be made with common household ingredients. Please be detailed and, um...tasty! Thank you!Lunch Ideas For Teenagers?
You could make tacos, burittos, hamburgers, ramen noodles, mac and cheese, rice -a- roni, soups and salads, ham and cheese sandwiches, grilled cheese sandwiches - just some suggestions.Lunch Ideas For Teenagers?
sandwich meat ,grilled it in a small amount of olive oil with onions and pepper, a few drops of lemon juice for taste, and fresh spinach instead of lettuce. although I wouldn't pack it in a lunch, as the spinach should be cool and washed and dried just before use. Also fried sweet potatoes are yummy, you asked for details, well wash, peel em, slice em thin or chunk, nuke em for about 4 mins, then fry em in a bit of olive oil, and salt %26amp; pepper as you like! Also try sauting onion spinach and pepper in lemon aide, yes the drink) it is good!
Hope that this site helps you. Enjoy!!!
burritos are easy... just get some tortillas, cheese and beans... or you can make salads, or sandwiches.. using the skillet, you can make grilled cheese or grilled ham and cheese too...

Texan teenage lunch%26gt;tortilla, cheese, grilled meat (chicken, beef or sausage) and some salsa. Stick in the microwave for a few secs to melt the cheese. Take out and put lettuce, tomatoes, and a scoop of sour cream, roll up and eat. NUM!
Ok, sweetie as a Mother of a sixteen year old daughter. Here's what my daughter likes. A grilled cheese sandwich, which she adds a slice of onion and tomotoe to it. Sometimes a chef salad with turkey, ham, cheese, onion, lettuce and of course fruit salad is great. All which is easy to make............

    Good Luck!
How about a nice sub sandwich?

    Long roll

    Salami

    Ham

    Cheese

    Lettuce

    Tomato

    Oil

    Vinegar

    with some chips
How about hummus? Puree a can of chick peas in a food processor with a little of the liquid, a little sesame tahini, salt, pepper and lemon juice. Other spices as you like. Take some with raw veggies and pita bread. Dip away! It's yummy.
You can make a stir fry if you have leftover meat. Boil the noodles and drain them, then use the same pan to fry them with some oil or butter, the meat, any veggies you have on hand, and some salt and pepper. I had the same problem, and it's pretty cool what you can come up with. If you buy frozen bread dough, you can make yourself a roll or even a whole loaf of bread in half an hour. With that, you can put on lunch meat and cheese and broil it until the cheese melts. It's like a deli sandwich at home!
Uncle Bens rice packets....they are great..im 15 so i know ur pain...
I have two 13 yr old boys and what they love to fix most is quesidillas. I cheat by getting differant kinds of cheeses and deli meats. They get a variety everytime I go shopping. Just heat your pan, throw in a tortilla, sprinkle w/cheese, sprinkle w/meat... add second tortilla.

Let it brown on one side and flip it. When it has browned on both sides, take it out of the pan and cut it in quarters. Eat w/salsa or dip of choice.

    Basic spahetti....

    Cook and drain pasta

saute vegtables you like in olive oil

add pasta and alittle bit of sauce along w/vegtables and let it fry. The sauce will stick to the noodles. Wallah, your a chef!

    Straw Hat

    Fritos

    Browned ground beef

    ranch style beans

    diced lettuce, tomatoes, onions

    shredded cheese

    optional- sour cream, salsa, olives

Layer these items in order in a bowl or on a plate... best taco salad you'll ever have.

    GOOD LUCK!
    Quesidillas:

Cut up a piece of chicken and put a little bit of taco seasoning on it. Then fry it in a pan. Put the chicken and some cheese in a softshell and microwave.

(If your family has a george forman grill put it on here the soft shell will get nice and crunchy.)

Buy some sandwich meat and have just lunch meat sandwiches.

Boil some ramen noodles until they are cooked, pour out the water and then add some eggs and scramble them. It is actually quite good.
How about grilled cheese and tomato soup? Easy and tasty? You can even add a slice of turkey or ham into your grilled cheese for a grilled ham and cheese, or turkey, sandwich
    uh.... can she yell?

    let's see.
