hi well what greater way to answer your question than a teenager herself well in my opinion for example for my birthday i like to receive gift cards from my favorite stores so i can purchase what i want without having to return it if i don't like and so i don't think you should buy cloths especially for a teen girl just get her a gift card or music players like mp3's which are really cheep right now trust me she'll be happy but for a teen boy i suggest electronics like also music players or video games for which ever system he has like PlayStation or xbox my brother got the the fifa 07 and he couldn't be happier i even like playing it but anyways those are just some of my ideas try going to wal mart at:http://www.walmart.com but this is only if you have a boy teen trust me you do NOT want to get a teen girl a wal mart card for cloths that's so bad but its great for electronics only that! anyways good luck chau!What are the best gifts to give for birthdays to teenagers?

if it is a girl-make-up, clothes or giftcards but for boys i have no idea.
I would say a gift card to a favorite store unless you've been given a list of things the teen would like.
As a teenager myself, I would like money, gas cards (if your teen drives), or a cool party. If you really want to make your gift special give him or her a car, computer, flat-screen tv, or go on vacation!
Condoms. Kids nowadays don't know the meaning of safe-sex anymore.
